Solar Oven

I’ve been meaning to make this for a few years, but only now have gotten around to it. A solar oven is pretty much an insulated box with glass or My solar ovenplastic over the top. It’s pretty much just a focused version of a windowed-up car on a summer day. I got two boxes, put one inside the other, put a bunch of newspaper and cardboard in between them, lined the inside box with aluminum foil (shiny side in), put some black felt on the bottom, and then threw a Reynolds oven bag over the top. I’m sorry that the picture’s so awful, but I just really suck at taking pictures. Anyways, I should be able to get up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit with this, but it might take awhile. I’m going to test it Thursday or Friday, because it’s supposed to be pretty dry then. If I can cook rice in it as is, I’ll be more than happy. If not, I can add some aluminum foil flaps to better focus the sunshine into the box.

  1. That picture sorta looks like a melted fish bowl.
